Time to hit the sack. Only two more exams to go before I'm home free.
Random fact: Hot Wheels' 1968 Nova has an "official" fictional engine, a 427 V8 taken from a 1967 Corvette, along with the Stinger hood. Phil Riehlman, the designer responsible for the miniature, stated in the 40th Anniversary set that his inspiration for this car came from Novas customized in the same way back in the 60's, so if he had to build it in real life, it would have the Corvette engine and hood.

I remember getting this car. I went to a car show/swap meet with my dad and he bought me a bunch of muscle car Hot Wheels.

So my wife and I were opening your car's you sent us way later than we were supposed to (I know I suck, but a 1 year old is a lot of work!) And we found this Nova with a scraped to hell bottom. She said I'm sure somebody on jalopnik can identify the year, make and model! I looked at the car, identified it,but she still googled it. And OF COURSE we came right to your post on OPPO!!!! How awesome! I'll do a full post about his reaction to all the car's soon! Thanks again, you're the best!

Hahaha, no problem at all man, I'm glad I could help!
As for that Nova, the story behind the scraped bottom is that I tried lowering the ride height to make it sleeker and with a more natural stance, so I had to trim down the base to keep it rolling, haha... That base is also the model on which I tried tooling a new lowered metal base for my other Novas.

Hahahahahaha.
I just figured it has some experiences outside on the concrete...This is a much better reason. Also, you guys are so appropriately crazy for customizing/lowering hot wheels cars hahaha.
He did love them though, took a little video of him getting them. I basically took the box and dumped them in front of him, he was quite excited!
He's got a thing for yellow cars lately, he snatched that Ferrari 458 right up. (and it didn't even spontaneously catch on fire!)

Haha, that's awesome... I just came back from Uruguay, let me know if you've already uploaded the video/pictures or when you will, and I'll be sure to check them out!
As for the customizing, I haven't done much of it lately, but it was always one of my favorite parts of collecting, haha... Basically, it was me trying to fix what minor mistakes Mattel did when tooling these cars, ride height being one of the most common. Aside from that custom base for the Nova, I also have a custom one for the 70 Chevelle and a Drag Racing base for the Ford Thunderbolt, all of them toolable in white metal.
